Hikueru is a central Tuamotu atoll organized around a single artificially created pass. The mother-of-pearl shell overexploitation led from the mid-20th century to a shift in activity towards copra cultivation and fishing.
WHAT WE PLAN TO DO
- Meet local authorities and stakeholders to discuss local issues relating to fishing;
- Set up a fishery and ecological monitoring system;
- Support the design of an Educational Marine Area.
