Passionate about scuba diving, Gilles was born and raised in French Polynesia. However, he did not choose to study natural sciences. Indeed, he studied mathematics and computer science at university. His passion for the observation of the underwater world led him to train in the identification of coral reef fish. He managed to be recruited at the EPHE and since 2010, he has been conducting fish monitoring campaigns, within the CRIOBE, in French Polynesia but also in other Pacific countries. In addition, he manages the multi-parameter probes and wave gauges used by CRIOBE.
Thus, Gilles carries out fish counts on the different sites where the Rāhui Center works such as Arutua, Tikehau or the Tahiti peninsula. He also participates in the sampling design and the processing and analysis of the data collected.
